Princess Yolanda of Savoy was born on August 1, 1901, in Rome, Italy, as the fourth child of King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy and Queen Elena. She was the younger sister of Umberto II, the last king of Italy.
Yolanda spent most of her childhood in various royal residences across Italy, where she received a traditional upbringing and education. She was fluent in several languages and had a keen interest in music and the arts.
In 1923, Princess Yolanda married Count Calvi di Bergolo, an Italian nobleman, in a lavish ceremony attended by members of European royalty. The couple had five children, four sons, and a daughter.
During World War II, Princess Yolanda served as a nurse and worked tirelessly to support the war effort. She also supported various charitable causes and founded the Association of Italian Women, which aimed to improve the conditions of women and children.
After the war, Princess Yolanda retired from public life and spent her later years in seclusion. She died in Rome on June 16, 1986, at the age of 84. Her funeral was attended by members of the Italian royal family and dignitaries from around the world.
